Remember the sponge applicator your mom used in the 80’s to apply her eye shadow look? It is that tiny little plastic eye shadow applicator with a piece of sponge that is available in all palettes or used as a tester at makeup counters. Lately it has become useless due to all the new brushes that have been introduced in the industry.
With the smokey eye and most blended looks, the right brush has been necessary to achieve the flawless eye looks. Hopefully you haven't thrown all those little applicators away because thanks to the latest Dior Couture Fall 2015 Runway you are going to need it to achieve this easy-to-do look. Dust off your eye shadow applicators and let’s get started.
The models skin is almost like a blank clean white canvas. Clearly these models didn't forget their SPF this summer. Use your favorite powder to give that matte effect all over, I love mineral powders but if you want a higher coverage use MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation. NC30 is about the most universal color so if you are about medium to light this shade will work for you but if you are darker jump to about NC40 or 45. The NC stands for the cool tones which most Middle Eastern girls are. Not sure if you are a cool or warm tone? Look at your veins, if they look greenish you have cold undertones if they look blue or purple you have warm (in which case you would need an NW).
The lips in this look are very pale, dab a little bit of concealer to tone down the natural lip color and then smooth over the lightest color lipstick you own. I like Tom Ford's Blush Nude for this look. I usually like to pair up my lips with my blush color so go nude with your blush as well. NARS Silent Nude pairs up nicely with these lips but don't hesitate to go a little darker or add some bronzer if this is totally washing you out. While we are at it let’s go nude with the nails too OPI Don't Bosa Nova Me Around is a great nude with a very tiny hint of pink.
Now to the eyes, this is going to be much easier than it looks. If this look is a bit too dramatic we can tone it down. Even though the models looked like they just had a lot of black liner all over their eyes they actually had different colors of shadow. Plums, burgundys and khakis looked beautiful close up. The safest color to play with and most flattering is a purple or plum shadow. Let's start off with our base, take Dior Beauty Eyeshadow Primer almost all the way up to your brow bone. Using Dior 5 Couleurs Designer' Makeup Artist Tutorial Palette in 808 Purple Design, which happens to come with an applicator, draw a half moon all the way across your eye lid with the purple shade. If you aren't feeling this bold look, just grab the other eyeshadow blending brush and blend away. If you went too high grab a clean sponge and go over the brow bone area with a dab of concealer or foundation. On the lash line use the center lighter color to make the eyes look wide open. Use the same light color on the bottom lash line.
Use the lightest beige color to highlight your brow bone for a nice contrast. Follow with a few coats of Dior Addict Lash Volumizing Mascara which has the thickest fullest brush that's great for this dramatic look.
This is a dramatic and edgy look, it will take some practice and getting used too. Not sure if it looks as great as the runway? Take a selfie and share with a friend before heading out. Have fun with it after all, if it doesn't work for you, all you need is a makeup wipe.
