The Beauty Dr. Answers All – Part 3

During the summer heat are there any treatments that should be avoided?

The easiest way to know if a peel is suitable for summer or better for winter is by checking which type of acid is used. Mild acids such as salicylic and citric are fine since they are used daily anyway in washes and toners.

Stronger acids like TCA (Trichloracetic Acid peel) found in the deep Blue Peel should definitely be avoided during the summer months.

Any peels that are Vitamin A derivatives should be used with control. Be very careful to not expose yourself to the sun at all while using these products. SPF of at least 30 should be worn and reapplied every few hours throughout the day, along with wearing a hat.  No exposure to sun at all!

Even though strong acids should be avoided doesn't mean it's fine to skip out on your facial routine. Facials are recommended once a month so make sure you are still doing your deep cleansing facials. Superficial peels are ok during this time. Also, make sure you take care of your skin during the summer by moisturizing dehydrated skin with a water based formula.
