If we are inspired by the runway, who are the designers inspired by? This time we switch places and go from reality to runway. This past year, nails have been getting longer and rounder and sometimes even pointier. This exaggerated look has been around for a while but thanks to celebrities like Rihanna and Khloe Kardashian, girls everywhere and all over Instagram are asking for this nail look.
Jeremy Scott chose this mainstream look for his doll-like cartoonish looking models. His designs are so fun to look at that a pop of bright color on the nails was just an added bonus.
Backstage at his NYFW show, "Miss Pop", the leading artist for OPI, chose the perfect shade to accentuate his fabulous and fun show. When you first get your nails done they look super shiny and that is the look that the models had. It was so shiny it almost looked still wet or plastic. The colors reminded me of candy, each one super bright and quirky.
It's exciting to choose an OPI shade because of the color names. Here are a few steps on how to achieve this nail look and a list of the fabulous colors from the show.
First you have to let your nails grow out a bit. This will take some patience but give it some time, you will be obsessed with this look, it's so much fun and instantly makes you feel fabulous.
It's all about the shape. As oval as possible, the longer the nails the easier to achieve this. Using a nail file, go from the corner to the center in the same direction and repeat on the other side. If you are impatient, or just don't have strong nails, keep in mind that many of these nail looks are artificial nails like acrylics. Try it out for a change, if you hate them you can just remove them and go back to a more classic shape.
The colors:
No Room for the Blues: such a fun blue, this color reminds me of The Smurfs!
That's Hot! Pink: Channel your inner Barbie with this bright pink shade.
Kiss Me I'm Brazilian: A bit of a lighter pink but still with a burst of color, reminds me of his designs for Moschino.
I Just Can't Cope-acabana: This bright yellow instantly makes you feel like you are on a tropical vacation.
In My Back Pocket: My favorite one from the show is this orange, mod retro color that worked so well with the big 60's hair.
Alpine Snow: As white as it can get, this almost looks like liquid papers I love this Spring look.
OPI Top Coat: Make sure your nails are always super shiny by reapplying this every other day, it also makes your color last.
Tip: Long nails are a little high maintenance, if you get cream or makeup or even food (yuck) under your nails, make sure to keep them super clean by using a Qtip and some alcohol.
