Everything you need to know about the Beautyblender

You can't watch a single makeup tutorial without seeing that cute little pink sponge. What is it and how do you use it?

Since I love pink, the moment I saw this I had to have it. I have had my Beautyblender for months and let me tell you that as long as you keep it clean, this tool lasts a really long time. I'm sure it's a good idea to switch it out from time to time. I recently cleaned mine and realized that some of the makeup just isn't coming out anymore so I finally decided to retire this one and quickly ordered a brand new one from NET-A-PORTER. I'll probably stick to my pink one since it makes me so happy but if pink is not your thing, it also comes in a greyish black and a "Red Carpet" red.

I also saw these adorable baby ones on the e-com website as well. This adorable Beautyblender Original Duo is perfect for under eye or little corners like around your nostril. I can't wait to use this for my concealer.

So when I first bought this I thought I totally knew what I was doing and used it like those regular triangle makeup sponges I normally use. I liked it but really didn't understand what the big deal was. It kinda just stayed in my bathroom and I forgot about it, until I finally came across a makeup tutorial that actually showed me how to use it.

So first of all you have to wet your sponge. If you don't wet it, all your product (foundation) will get sucked into the Beautyblender instead of going on your face! Besides wasting the product it also won't give you the right coverage. I finally tried this with water and wow, what a difference.

Another mistake I was making was just smoothing it all over my face. Once I paid close attention to how artists are using this I realized I wasn't using it correctly. You almost have to pat it or let it bounce off your face all over. Use the larger round area for your face but the pointy side for your under eye and other little areas like around your nose.

You can apply your foundation with your fingers or brush and then use this to blend. I like to put the foundation on the back of my hand and just pick up a little product at a time with my Beautyblender and apply it that way. Whenever I'm in a rush I use my hands to apply my foundation but I hate having to wash my hands and ruin my towels after. The Beautyblender is just as fast and doesn't make a mess. Just please remember to wash it at least once a week so you don't end up with bacteria on your face.

Once I finally figured out how to use it, I wanted to use it every day. One major problem, how do I clean it? Also available on NET-A-PORTER is the Beautyblender Solid Cleanser. To my surprise the BeautyBlender went from beige back to its original pink clean state. In conclusion, this is a small investment but a very rewarding one!
