Chances are where you are right now it still feels like summer although it's October. As much as I love summer, I also love that time of the year when you start wearing jackets and shopping for a cute pair of boots.
Along with your wardrobe, your beauty products change as well. Summer is all about highlights in your hair, wearing fun colors and wearing lighter makeup. Let's face it, as women we love change and chances are your highlights have gotten a little dull by the end of summer. Here's a guide to get you ready for all things Fall, from favorites to tips.
1) The first change is with you hair. When a woman changes her hair, you know she's up to something! Whether it's a new attitude, a new job or perhaps you met someone, take this season's change as a chance to reinvent yourself.
Darken your roots by making your base one shade darker. Ask your hairdresser to go over some of your highlights but to keep some of the front ones around your face still intact. This way you will transition gradually and see how you feel about the change. You might end up missing your highlights but if you love the shine of dark brown, more natural looking hair, next time go in and ask for all the highlights to be darkened as well. Even if you go dark, once you wash your hair a few times, your highlights will peak out again and this will give you a nice subtle contrast.
2) Vamp up your nails. As much as I love pinks and nudes, the first drop of rain makes me want to go dark. Maybe it's the mysterious feeling of a rainy day. Dark nails give you this edgy feeling that's very empowering. Think of this as a neutral since it really goes well with almost any outfit. Essie's Gel Color in Lucky Tuxe is a perfect chip-free way to give you a rich, dark color that will last for up to 2-3 weeks. The best thing about these dark nail colors is unlike the light ones they have a longer staying power and won't fade.
3) Pair up your dark nails with a dark lip. Wearing a dark lip is just like wearing red. It looks great until it starts wearing off. I like to keep mine in place by using a liner as a base and I use M·A·C Lip Pencil in Currant. You can wear this alone for a matte look which is on trend now or pair it up with a lipstick or a gloss for a creamier texture. Marc Jacobs Beauty Enamored Hi-Shine Lip Lacquer in Whip It looks great.
4) Pink and coral blushes look great for summer but for a more sophisticated Fall neutral I love a mauve nude blush like Bobbi Brown's Pot Rouge for Lip & Cheek in Telluride. I love that this doubles as a lip color too.
5) Darker, richer tones are more acceptable during this season. A burgundy eyeshadow is a great way to go a little darker yet still keeping it soft enough for day. Dior's 5 COULEURS COSMOPOLITE in 866 - Eclectic has the perfect burgundy shade and also includes a dark green that looks beautiful with the plum tones for an intense evening look.
