Born in 1980, the same year as Pac-Man, designer Nicholas Kirkwood is part of the video game age. With his playful approach to ‘heritage’, he celebrated the 10th anniversary by launching a Middle East – Exclusive collection available only at Level Shoe District.
The “10” collection resembles the child-like excitement surrounding games, toys and films in the 1980s. It depicts a defining moment in pop culture for the designer and an essential part of his bold, signature graphic prints. Snow Fighters compete with NK-P0 robot androids, Fast Cars collide with a Millenium Butterfly and Pac-Man finds its way to The Arcade.
These shoes also feature “collectable” box packaging with each numbered pair being part of a limited-edition, made-to-order collection. “To go back to the essence of why I started designing shoes; to challenge convention and subvert people’s ideas of what footwear should look like and in this case, for ‘10’, I wanted to experiment with graphicism in a, quite literally, playful way. “10” explores the concept of being ten years old again and the excitement of discovering something for the first time,” said Kirkwood.
