As a longtime advocate for lip gloss, I personally love how sexy glossy lips look. But with the matte look everywhere, I couldn't sit on the sidelines and not try it out. After all, you can't judge before you try. So I did.
At first it seems like a big change, but, like me, you might end up really loving it. The easiest way to make your lipstick look matte is to get a tissue and blot your lips; your creamy lipstick will keep hydrating your lips but at the same time the blotting removes added shine through the napkin.
Remember, a matte look is a bit harder to pull off, so make sure the color is not washing you out. If it's too pink or too light it can really look chalky. I love using red or dark matte on my lips. I also love the look of a soft nude. Here are a few of my faves:
1) We can't talk about matte lipstick without mentioning MAC The Matte Lipstick in Velvet Teddy. Nude matte lips go with almost any make up look and are great for every day. You really can't go wrong with this one on its own or maybe as a base with a gloss, if you really can't live without a bit of shine.
2) Red and matte is so sexy, that's why I love NARS Lipstick in Red Lizard. This semi matte look is perfect for those who want a creamy matte.
3) If a darker lip is what you crave, Tom Ford Lip Color in Black Dahlia is the perfect rainy day matte.
4) Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in Fuchsia Flash Matte is such a fun pop color to wear. This magenta tone will make you feel happy all day.
5) I love a pinkish nude, so I had to include Kevyn Aucoin The Matte Lip Color in For Keeps.
If you have dry lips, make sure you are taking care of them before trying out this look!
