Victoria Beckham’s Ready-to-Wear Fall/Winter 2016-2017 Collection debuted at the New York Fashion Week and it was a luxurious fest of prints and geometrical lines. Steering clear from her usual Spice-Girls-driven mini-dresses and long-heeled shoes, the singer-turned-designer dazzled the crowd with laid-back garments, mixed-and-matched colors, prints and materials.

Models were spotted walking down the runway wearing dresses that gently grazed the ankles, with a heart shaped strapless bodice, giving it a slight sensuality. What was once a sexy collection fitted for the young souls was now a more lady-like wardrobe with form-fitting dresses and bubble dresses, oversized tartan coats and high-waist wide-legged pants. Some of the dresses were tainted with a tartan pattern while other ensembles were highlighted by a varied mix of patterns, where horizontal stripes met vertical stripes. Little cut-out pieces from the torso channeled a bit of balance to the midi dresses, exuding a more liberated feel. Victoria also added layer upon layer of garments to basic looks. Picture a uni-colored baseline –be it a dress or a uniform - merged with a gilet-kind of coat. The result, a monochrome look like no other.

And then there were the androgynous pointed shoes and the black boots that added to this eclectic collection. There were plenty of shadowy colors, mainly black and white, but also dark green, maroon, brick orange, hints of red and most importantly, checked and mixed patterns used in the most delicate of ways.

This season is clearly all about layering and most importantly, mixing genres and patterns and Beckham’s timeless sophistication had obviously played a huge role in the choice of looks. The show was undeniably luxurious, and front-rowers nodded in agreement. Absolutely!
