Every year, Jaeger-LeCoultre celebrates one of its most prestigious events, the Annual Chaplin Award Gala, and this year was no exception. Winner of the 40th Chaplin Award, renowned American singer, actress and filmmaker Barbara Streisand presented the 42nd Chaplin Award to Academy Award winner director, actor and producer Robert Redford.
Held at the Lincoln Center in New York, the evening was attended by Jane Fonda – winner of the 28th Chaplin Award, American screenwriter and director J.C. Chandor, American actor John Turturro, American documentary film director Laura Poitras and American actress Elizabeth Moss. The event also featured a movie and interview clips that honored the wide-ranging career of Redford, who’s also the founder of the Sundance Film Festival and Institute.
First held in 1972, the annual gala honored famed English comic actor and filmmaker Charlie Chaplin, along with many notable talents in the film industry such as Alfred Hitchcock, Billy Wilder, Laurence Olivier, Frederico Fellini, Elizabeth Taylor, James Stewart, Robert Altman, Martin Scorsese, Diane Keaton, Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, Michael Douglas, Sidney Poitier, Catherine Deneuve and Barbara Streisand.
Since 2013, Jaeger-LeCoultre has been a partner of America’s leading non-profit film organization, Film Society of Lincoln Center. As part of this association, the Film Society and Jaeger-LeCoultre launched the ‘Filmmaker in Residence’ initiative, which gives every year an artist the opportunity to focus on developing or refining new works in New York City. Further highlighting Jaeger-LeCoutlre’s affinity for cinematic art and its commitment to supporting cinema in all its diversity, the partnership is also a part of New York Film Festival, which is a 17-day program showcasing the best films of the year from around the world.
