When summer lipsticks hit the stores, we can’t wait to get our hands on the yummiest shades that will definitely add a vibrant and fresh touch to our look. We know that it is hard to choose between all the options that are made available out there, but before we jump on the “I want this color now” bandwagon, do we consider if this or that shade works well with our skin tone?
If not, we are helping you find the perfect summer match for your skin tone and avoid lipstick mistakes!
The first thing to do is identify your skin’s undertone, which is either a warm yellow or a cool pink. To do so, look at the veins on your wrist. Your skin’s undertone is pink if the veins look blue, while it is yellow is they appear green. You will be lucky if they appear both blue and green, as you have a neutral skin tone in this case and you can wear any lipstick color you like. If you are still not sure about the color of your veins, you can discover your skin’s undertone through white and yellow gold. Ignoring your preference, hold white and yellow gold pieces of jewelry next to your face; pink tones go better with white-gold jewelry, while yellow skin tones are the perfect match for yellow gold.
While a yellow undertone calls for warm colors, blue or purple-toned lipsticks look great with a pink undertone skin. Shades that suit all of olive, fair and darker skin tones is your way to be on the safe side.
Most nude, pink, orange and red shades work perfectly well with olive skin tones, while bold reds and dark colors look gorgeous on fair skin, which appears washed out with light colors and yellow undertones. If you have a darker skin tone, you can opt for deep plums, berries and reds. Unless you want to make a statement with your lipstick or achieve a retro look, avoid colors that look too light or pale on the lips.
