One of the key steps in any makeup application is prepping and priming your features, not only your skin. 

When choosing a skin primer, be sure to choose a formula suitable for your skin type. For example, a more rich formula for dry skin, and a lighter oil free formula for oily skin types. A basic moisturizer of your choice actually works as an ideal primer. 

Next, also prime the eyes using an eye cream, followed by a good base on the eyelids, which will work to keep your eyeshadow in place.

Last but not least, the lips! Use a gentle exfoliator followed by a good lip conditioner.
