The first time I fell in love with my own make up was when a makeup artist gave me her “Arabic eyes” look for my best friend’s wedding. I looked in the mirror and didn’t even recognise myself. Most people think Middle Easterners are just born knowing how to perfect that hot eyeliner look, but the truth is, for years I tried and failed.
What’s the secret behind those Kim Kardashian smokey eyes? Not just the perfect combination of blending shades and her beautiful eye shape, but if you look closely, it’s her under eye! I admit I got so comfortable with my barely there makeup look with clean shadows and just mascara, it was time to step up my game. But how? I have tried so many times to put eyeliner or eyeshadow on my lower lash line, but I always either looked like a racoon or my eyes looked rounder than they are.
Once in a while I like to go through my make up and find something to throw out so I have an excuse to buy something new. During this process I came across my Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick in Bark, I loved using this on my lids since it stays on all night but somehow I steer back towards eyeshadows. I also started looking through my brushes and found my MAC 231 Small Shader Brush.
This was a brush that I never really used, but was just part of my collection. I had the perfect combo for an under eye smokey look right under my nose! Without hesitation I grabbed my brush and started lining right at the lower lash line with the creamy shadow.
The fact that it isn’t a powder gave me more control but I knew I had to work fast. These types of shadows are usually fast drying because they are longwearing. I looked in the mirror, I did it! I finally figured out Arabic eyes! Later that night my husband told me my make-up looked hot. Must be those Middle Eastern eyes!
