Voluptuous was the it-word at the Balenciaga Spring-Summer 2017 Runway Show. Demna Gvasalia’s take on experimentalism was apparent through square-shaped bulky shoulders, over-the-knee leather boots and trench coats. Pants seemed to melt away in boots, fitting the model’s legs like a lavish and colorful second skin, while jackets and blazers were given an edgy feel, worthy of the House’s intricate forms and textures. It was all very androgynous yet so charismatic, as red belts traced the silhouettes with sensuality and composure. Peplum blouses made a comeback in pasty colors and bags were that of an extravagant line, as they took on the form of a miniature pouf couch- something only Balenciaga could fabulously pull-off. Alongside, the bulky jackets were floral tighty-tights, proving yet again that balance is always key! There was the occasional mono-patterned jumpsuit, making quite the statement on show-goers and there was also the brooch-adorned turtleneck. One thing’s for sure though, it was a nod to the eighties but with a contemporary and urban twist.

The message was clear: today, it’s all about shapes and proportions, the Balenciaga way.
