5 Steps to Full Coverage

Being a huge fan of the barely there makeup, I decided to change things up by trying out full coverage makeup. In the past, full coverage was only for those that were on TV, in the movies or in magazines. Today, everyone seems like a celebrity with Instagram and Snapchat, so you never know when you will be caught on camera. With that said, let’s make sure you are always camera ready, with or without the filter.

Step 1 Prime. Full coverage is like a perfectly painted wall. Think layers rather than one thick coat. Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer is a reliable choice. Try to stay away from anything with radiance or glow as this may not look well in photos.

Step 2 Foundation. I love a buildable foundation, this means I am in control of how heavy my make up is. If I use very little product and blend it out nicely, it looks barely there. For a full coverage, I can layer on a couple of applications and use a Beauty Blender to stipple it in. You can also use a Kabuki brush but instead of using circular motions to blend, push the product in for a flawless appearance. Dior Diorskin Airflash Spray is my go to foundation for a full make up look.

Step 3 is optional. Adding another layer of either a creamy or powder foundation: most people should be fine without this step but let’s say you have a problem area, this could be helpful to add some extra coverage for things such as acne or pigmented areas. Too Faced makes a great Powder Foundation that won’t look too cakey. Instead of buying a creamy foundation or concealer for imperfections, I use the dried up parts of my foundation bottle instead. Might not be the most hygienic thing to do, but hey, the color matches perfectly.

Step 4 Concealer. Benefit Cosmetics Boi-ing Industrial-Strength Full Coverage Concealer sounds pretty heavy duty. I have noticed that using a sponge gives me much more coverage than a brush or my fingers.

Step 5 Set with Powder. I hear Charlotte Tilbury makes the best powder but I have yet to try it. Chanel Natural Finish Loose Powder is also perfect for this step, and in order to avoid cake-face, always set with a fine powder.
