When you get a manicure, for a second, it feels like you are refreshed and completely in control. Every women knows this feeling. When your nails are a mess, it's almost as if your life is out of order. Here are a few tips for before and after your manicure in order to keep them looking perfect.
1 - Invest in a good nail buffer and file. It is so important to have your nails filed down and buffed before applying nail polish. With this clean and neat look, even just a clear manicure will look great. In case you get a chip afterwards that is close to the edges, try fixing it by filling it down with your nail file.
2 - Wash and dry your hands before applying nail polish. It is important to do this to remove any oil or moisture on your nails. Also, in order to avoid getting lint on your nails from using a towel, use a paper towel instead. After your manicure try your best to avoid getting your nails wet. The more your polish is exposed to moisture, the faster it will chip.
3 - Apply a base coat that acts almost like a primer. Also apply a couple of thin coats instead of one thick coat. Once your nail polish is on, apply top coat while still it’s wet.
To make your manicure last, reapply a top coat every day. Essie's All in One is great because it's a base and top coat in one.
4 - If you hit your finger accidentally and you get a "bump" of nail polish, don't apply another coat over it. Instead dab a little nail polish remover with your finger on the "bump" and spread out the polish.
5 - Dot a tiny bit of nail polish with the edge of the brush to fix a small chip. When in doubt, just remove and start over. Lighter colors have less noticeable chips than dark or bright colors. Pick a more natural shade to have your manicure last longer.
