His gowns make regular appearances on the red carpet and celebrities swear by his distinctive touch. Indeed, there’s something about Elie Saab’s designs that makes the crowd all topsy-turvy. The Lebanese designer has always had a knack for delicate artistry, but his Couture Spring-Summer 2017 show was undoubtedly exceptional.
If there was any doubt about his youthfulness, then the crystal embroidered sheer dresses saw the last vestiges of uncertainty swiped away in a deluge of sheer fabulousness. The designer gave way to a certain oriental sensuality -depicted through taffeta midi dresses with a sultry high-slit- and continued this marvelous storyline with a myriad of sparkling sheer dresses highlighted by thin belts at the waist. The models were swaying to a particular medley of oriental beats and occidental rhythms, bringing together two worlds into one pot. There were the occasional feather trimmings invading the sleeves of floor-grazing wraps, covering oh-so elegantly skin-bearing gowns. The eat-your-heart-out golden color palette was simply outstanding, bringing back the memories of an oriental night, true to the designer’s native roots. The juxtaposition of oriental-meets-occidental was forever existent; think black oriental eyeliner and satiny headband. Think crystal embroideries and skin-bearing dresses. While most fashion enthusiasts can recognize the designer’s distinctive pattern a mile away, the bridal gown was sure to make them gasp! Picture a champagne-colored gown lavishly embroidered with whimsical leaves, making the Elie Saab bride look like a floating angel.
There are only a few things that could easily get you through the hardship of winter and as it turns out, Elie Saab’s show is high on top of that list.
