I’ve tried so many mascaras in different price ranges from L’Oréal to Dior, and it seems like I was missing the secret to perfect lashes. I recently noticed in a picture that I look like I barely even have mascara on, and started wondering, “what am I doing wrong?” So as always, I got a little obsessive about this beauty topic, researched it and now I’m going to share it with you!
Before we begin make sure to curl your lashes for optimum results.
A huge step that I was missing was using a lash primer such as the Tarte Opening Act Lash Primer. These primers don’t just make your lashes look thicker and longer, but they also condition your lashes. You can even wear a primer to bed to condition your lashes while you sleep.
Another mistake I was making was just taking out the wand and applying. You have to wipe your wand clean and then start applying so you don’t end up with a clumpy mess
Tilt your head back to avoid getting it all over your eyelid. Start at the base and work your way up while wiggling it around. Also, start at the tips and then go to the roots for the next coat, but I am yet to try that method.
I have seen many women pump their mascara between coats but this only puts air in the bottle and will dry out the product faster.
Applying a few coats for a more dramatic look is okay, but too many times might give off that “spider” look. Some people can’t live without that: it’s a personal preference.
Work fast so that the product doesn’t dry before combing it through with a clean wand.
Finally, don’t keep mascara over three months after opening it. Definitely guilty of this one!
