Beauty Tip of the Week – Do's and Don'ts for Highlighting and Contouring

A flawless face is what makeup and beauty are all about.

We see our Instagram feeds flooding with different videos and tutorials on how to contour and highlight. Unfortunately, whether it’s the use of excessive amounts of product unnecessarily, or overdoing it with the harsh lines and wrong color choices, some of these contour/highlight tutorials are a major disaster.

Here we simplify the steps to a flawless face with simple Do's and Don’ts.

DO:

1-Highlight the cheekbones, upper bridge of the nose, and cupids bow.

2-Use a slightly lighter foundation as a base highlight on the areas you want to bring out. This leaves a natural and well blended look.

3-To finish off the look, use a very fine shimmer powder in a minimal amount to get the desired glow.

4-Contour using a slightly darker shade from your foundation to give definition and depth. Apply your contour under the cheekbones, sides of the nose, around the hair line, and the lower jaw line.

5-Invest in a good quality buffing/blending brush.

DON’T:

1- Over apply highlight and shimmer; sharp defined lines are harsh.

2- Forget to blend! Blending is everything and really is a true art form which you can master using the right tools and products. A good quality highlighter and contour will blend in easily.

3- Forget that less is always more!
