The Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition [DJWE], Hong Kong International Jewellery Show and Baselworld 2017 this year saw the launch of some lovely designs.

This time, Italian brand Veschetti caught our eye at the Doha show. Helmed by siblings, Marco and Laura Veschetti, the brand was founded by their father, Mario, in 1949. Along with Laura, Marco creates stunning contemporary pieces set with colorful gems; many of which are inspired by the architectural marvels and history of Italy.

Spinning a web of creativity at Baselworld this year, Canada-based designer Reena Ahluwalia teamed up with Hong-Kong-based Aaron Shum to create Coronet – undeniably, one of the most talked about designs of the year. The first collection is titled Inner Brilliance and uses the patented Coronet setting that ensembles seven round brilliants with an elevated centre diamond set without prongs, creating the effect of a grand solitaire. With remarkable finesse and ingenuity, Reena breathes life and movement into jewelry that spin.

Another show-stealer at Baselworld was the Romeo and Juliet ring designed by Alessio Boschi. In this secret ring, he skillfully created the upper part of the ring as an ode to the beautiful balcony from which Juliet often spoke to Romeo. Flip open the ring, and it reveals Romeo, on his knees, with a rose in his hand – executed in miniature, while hidden inside the gemstone lid lies a miniature 19th century artwork, depicting the two romantic figures.

High-Jewelry House Boghossian unleashed its creativity through Les Merveilles with an extraordinary mounting technique that allows precious stones to be set on all four sides, with a near invisible metal frame. And Picchiotti celebrated its 50th anniversary with unique pieces, including the precious L’Anfiteatro ring. Other creative pieces we liked were by Andre Marcha and Magerit, while Roberto Demeglio, Annamaria Cammilli Gioielli, Ilias Lalaounis, Dinh Van came up with some eye-catching jewelry.
