Bottega Veneta celebrates the 50th anniversary of its signature Intrecciato leather weave with a new global campaign, “Craft is our Language”, which honors the House’s artisanal roots and the beauty of handcraft as a universal language. The project features artisans alongside cultural figures such as Julianne Moore, Zadie Smith, Jack Antonoff, Lauren Hutton, and Tyler Okonma. Through stills and short films, it explores the expressive power of hand gestures and the interplay between maker and wearer.
First introduced in 1975, Intrecciato – woven strips of leather crafted with meticulous skill – has become a symbol of Bottega Veneta’s identity and its no-logo philosophy. The campaign views the weave not just as a technique, but as a metaphor for human connection, creativity, and collaboration.
Two figures – former design director Edward Buchanan and actress Lauren Hutton – underscore the brand’s history, with Hutton’s iconic use of Intrecciato in American Gigolo spotlighted. The campaign also nods to Italian design heritage, drawing inspiration from Bruno Munari’s 1963 handbook on hand gestures.
A companion book will follow in September, presenting 50 gestures that embody the spirit of Bottega Veneta’s enduring craft.
