Dior Unveils Cuir Saddle: A Modern Take on the Leather Fragrance

A fresh, sensual twist on a classic olfactory family.

Dior’s La Collection Privée introduces Cuir Saddle, a new creation by Francis Kurkdjian that reimagines the traditional leather fragrance with a luminous, contemporary spirit. Instead of the smoky, musky, and animalic tones usually associated with the Leather genre, Kurkdjian softens and brightens the accord with modern floral facets, crafting a scent as bold and sensual as Dior’s iconic Saddle bag.

Inspired by the timeless It bag, Cuir Saddle is designed as a second skin with an intimate, unexpected leather-floral composition. Kurkdjian describes it as a trompe-l’œil perfume: seemingly classic with its charred, smoky, woody base, yet ultimately surprising through an overdose of light and noble floral and musky notes. The result challenges the heavy connotations of traditional leather accords by infusing them with softness and radiance.

Drawing on the historic roots of leather in perfumery – from the perfumed gloves of the 16th century to the evocative Russian Leather tradition – Kurkdjian sought to renew the genre using modern synthetic molecules. Cuir Saddle blends supple suede, creamy florals, musks, and woody amber notes for a persistent yet airy signature.

A limited-edition travel bottle, dressed in pale taupe couture leather inspired by the Saddle bag, completes this elegant and tactile tribute to Dior’s craftsmanship.
