Text by Laurence Benaïm, Foreword by Florence Muller, Contribution by Pierre Cardin and Raf Simons
Fans of Christian Dior are in for a treat this summer. Not only will they be able to retrace the story of the Bar suit and admire the manifesto of the couturier’s first collection at the Musée Christian Dior –located in Dior’s childhood home in Granville, Normandy– but they will also be able to enjoy it all in the comfort of their own home thanks to this hardcover published by Rizzoli.
Dior’s bar suit –which pairs a voluminous skirt with a tight-fitted jacket– is one of the most significant designs in the history of fashion. This new look, which Dior described as “the return to an ideal of civilized happiness”, came out in 1947 and revolutionized the industry.
Written by historian Laurence Benaïm –who is known for her biography of Yves Saint Laurent, among others– Dior: The New Look Revolution will accompany the exhibition of the same name. This enchanting coffee table book includes initial sketches of the Bar suit drawn by Christian Dior himself, stunning photographs and informative text examining over sixty years of Dior’s beautiful reinvention.
