Louboutin Finds Inspiration in Ancient Egypt for Limited Edition Collection

by Mirella Haddad

Ancient Egypt’s mythology and culture has always inspired Christian Louboutin’s life and work in various exciting ways. From his traditional house in Luxor to his dahabieh- a classical Egyptian sailboat - on the Nile, Egypt is a country the leading French shoe designer considers as second home.

This season, Louboutin finds inspiration in the scarab beetle – a significant symbol of Egyptian iconography that was sacred to the Pharaohs – to create the ‘Scarabée’ limited-edition collection of unique nail lacquers. Once used in the shape of a clasp on the Khepira bag for the spring 2014, the creature comes back to life in three new shades of the designer’s latest nail color offering.

“They can look beautiful and reflective under the bright sun but also look like a precious jewel by night,” said the designer. Fusing fashion with beauty, Louboutin also developed a new blue-to-green patent leather under the name of “Scarabée Ocean-Amazone” inspired by the Scarabée II nail lacquer.

With the ability to reflect two or more shades at once, the collection comes in three colors: Scarabée I, a soft metallic shade with tones of rose and gold, Scarabée II, a deep blue shade with hints of purple, emerald and gold and Scarabée III, a bronze shade with tones of green and blue.

Featuring a tall copper gold cap, the bottles come in brown cartons adorned with a copper gold scarab motif and a window that reveals the shade of the nail lacquer.
