Have you ever seen a sleeveless hourglass-shaped shirt, which morphed into a beautiful sheer chiffon dress? Neither had we before Vionnet’s spring show.
We’re not quite sure what inspired Barbara and Lucia Croce this season, but it must’ve been something grandiose.
Could it have been Ancient Rome? The silk white robes and red gladiator-like sandals most certainly seemed to indicate so. But what about the plumes and embroideries, or the futuristic buckle-straps for that matter? The ice-white mantle covered with stitched-on flowers was definitely not from the past, nor were the ballerina wrap-around sneakers.
Inspirations and visions aside, the Italian sisters most definitely had their impact on the crowd; as let’s not forget, “a couturier dresses human beings, not dreams” – Madeleine Vionnet.
