Madonna kicked off her Rebel Heart Tour yesterday and with much anticipation the costumes made for her and her dancers by Gucci Creative Director Alessandro Michele have been finally revealed.
A patchworked skirt, lurex-jacquard bodysuit, a silk-fringed crêpe de Chine and georgette shawl, lace gloves with jacquard ruffles, sleeves with multicolored trimmings and knee-high lace-up leather boots make for emblematic gypsy outfits dipped in exoticism. Dancers compliment the artist with brocade jackets embroidered with silk florals, multicolored floral headpieces, pleated neckpieces and Tehuana-inspired capes.
Known for her dramatic theatrical performances, Madonna has always made a bold statement when it comes to stage dressing. The likes of Jean Paul Gaultier made headlines when he dressed Madonna in the most thought-provoking bodice that reverberated internationally. This time, as part of her gradual evolution, Madonna brings ethnic folklore elements to life, perhaps considered a more intimate connection with humanity?
