Celine did not leave much to the imagination this season. The label’s summer line looked like the wardrobe of a seductress bourgeois woman from the 1920’s. Silk, sheer nighties with lace filled the show all the while heat crammed the air. Were we in for a treat?
Phoebe Philo managed to modernize her vintage gowns by pairing them with either leather ankle boots or pointy flats, as to create midnight on-the-go ensembles.
When her models weren’t wearing sensual nightgowns, they were rocking masculine blazers and cigarette pants: Celine was evidently embracing the modern woman this season.
Round shoulders and puff sleeves shaped the show and marked white and black blouses. A checkered mustard coat, which was paired with matching pants and red lips, playfully reminded us of Rupert the bear.
Nude maxi dresses ended the show, as to reinstall some femininity to the line. The modern woman might be fierce and tenacious but she before most, she will always be a woman and once in a while, a woman just wants to wear a pretty pink dress. If there’s one label who truly understands this, it’s Celine.
