I must admit that I was quite excited to see what Nicolas Ghesquière had been up to. The French fashion designer has always intrigued me – and with good reason. Who else manages to craft truly hip ensembles that remain entirely wearable?  

Ghesquière launched his summer line with a baby pink leather biker jacket paired with a wrap skirt and sandal wedges. Now that’s undeniably cool. Fishnets shirts and denim jumpsuits came next: was Louis Vuitton giving the working class attire a very chic modern makeover? Cottony silk gowns were embellished with beads and sequins and paired with bulky brogues, as to slightly de-feminize them. Girly girls might not shop at Louis Vuitton next summer. Soft striped sweaters came next and were accessorized with funky headbands and tiny boxed purses – as the Vuitton girl doesn’t need much, other than her style bien sûr. 

Cool vests worn over cropped t-shirts and old-fashioned Renaissance shirts followed, before making room for pirate ensembles and multi-colored eighties leather outfits. In a world where women are shamed for what they wear, Louis Vuitton decided to turn the tables around and presented a rather feminist line. Pretty much every type of masculine look was embraced – but was made to look feminine and sexy. Bravo Nico.
