Cressida Bonas Dances for Mulberry

by Mirella Haddad

The first in the brand’s series of digital stories, Mulberry introduces its new dance project with Cressida Bonas, Michael Howells, Choreographer Martin Joyce and Director Ivana Bobic. The project features emerging talents from the industries of fashion, film and theater, art and design, digital and new technology.

The first film stars British actress and dancer, Cressida Bonas (Prince Harry's ex-girlfriend), who trained at London’s renowned Trinity Laban Dance Conservatoire. Working with choreographer and former Rambert leading dancer Martin Joyce, the duo created a dance story that reflects the spirit of Mulberry’s Spring ’15 collection.

The film was directed by award-winning London-based director Ivana Bobic. “This project was a real collaboration with all involved, to tell a story of discovery,” said Bobic. “Cressida is a free-spirited Mulberry Girl, but with an inner-strength that really comes through as we journey with her up the grass staircase, and she is drawn into the dramatic mirrored room. This is a modern retelling of a fairy tale – the girl goes on an adventure, is set free in the dance, and emerges with light in her eyes – perfectly embodied by Cressida as she gives that knowing look to Freddie as she skips past him!”

Mulberry was inspired by traditional and contemporary British gardens. Featuring the brand’s new Buttercup Dress, the film explores the joyful mood of an English garden on a summer day.

“Dance is about joy and freedom, and we were very interested in telling a story that would look great on film, but that would also create a moment of pleasure for the people watching. Watching dance, as well as dancing, makes you feel good,” said Mulberry Brand Director Anne-Marie Verdin. “As someone who lives and breathes dance, Cressida was the perfect choice to become the Mulberry Girl and really capture the carefree spirit of our Spring Summer 2015 collection.”
