I’m always experimenting with my hair because it seems like such a struggle to make it look nice and polished with minimum time and effort. I have to admit I am lucky enough not to have super oily hair so I can get away with a few days of not washing it.
A couple of weeks ago, I chopped off a few inches of my hair because the ends were super dry and damaged. I loved it the first day, but just like most women after a hair cut I started panicking and googling ways to grow out my hair fast. I came across this tip that mentioned not to put any conditioner near your scalp. I tested it out and it was such a game changer.
Usually I put conditioner all over because I like how it feels and makes it so easy to comb out. But then I tried this tip, and Wow! I was shocked.
About day 3 after my blowdry the front of my hair starts looking a little flat since it’s the beginning of the oily phase. I usually use a dry shampoo at this point but sometimes that forces me to wash it the following day due to build up. This time, no flatness at all! I decided to give it another day or two and before I knew it I was at day 6. Contain your shock people! That said, I don't think I would have waited this long if I had exercised during this time.
Anyway, at day 6 I felt the same way about my hair looking flat like I would have on day 3 if I had conditioned it like I used to (all over the roots). So that's when I used my dry shampoo, and on day 7 I washed my hair and started over.
Maybe not washing your hair for an entire week sounds a little extreme, but we have heard time and time again from experts to avoid washing our hair as long as we possibly can and to keep conditioners away from our roots. Maybe I went a little overboard with my experiment, but it worked for me and maybe it could work for you too.
