After a quick hop to Rio for Louis Vuitton’s Resort show, the fashion scene moved yesterday to London to witness yet again, Dior’s grandeur.
The Maison was emphasizing its heritage, as it brought its Cruise 2017 collection for the third time to Blenheim Palace in England. Perfectly embodying the house’s timeless elegance, the collection was nothing short of a French masterpiece, with just enough of a British twist.
Head designers Serge Ruffieux and Lucie Meier held the reigns of the resort process, creating a whirlpool of interesting color combinations, equestrian scenes and layered slip dresses. Models strutted down the runway looking like French-Meets-English, dressed ever—so elegantly in classic Dior tweeds at times and floral tea-dresses at others.
A recurring pattern caught the eye of front-rowers, featuring loose scarf-like strings emanating from blazers. The touch was that of an equestrian maven, dipped in French gravy. The aspect of layering was very much present in the form of slip dresses, combined with low boots, true to the English countryside. But perhaps the greatest aspect of it all might just be the kick flare trousers, taking the collection to a whole new level of opulence. Tightly-waisted jackets, Victorian puffed sleeves and baroque designs remained true to the spirit of the collection, while a sensual gown with a plunging neckline created a much-needed element of surprise.
Imagine Dior’s Parisian elegance brightly intertwined with an English equestrian scene and there you have it, Dior’s Cruise 2017 show! It just goes to show that anything is possible, even if it means combining different cultures and different eras into one simple yet excruciatingly elegant collection!
