You know those gorgeous pair of high-heeled Louboutins you’re wearing right now? Or these sensual pair of Jimmy Choo sandals you’re storing for a savvy night out? Well, ironically so, before these big names were a thing, high heels were originally a man’s must-have. True story!
So for the sake of these little fashion tidbits, allow us to take you on a trip down memory lane. Legend has it that it all goes back to the 1600s, where heels were a sign of high aristocracy for men, which literally meant that since they didn’t need to work, they could easily pull off wearing these “tiring” shoes. Talk about nobility!
Another theory relates these gems to ancient times, as they were blatantly known as “rider shoes” used for the sole purpose to secure the rider’s posture, as to perfect horsemanship. Mind you, if it hadn’t been for the rising effort of women to masculinize their outfits, us ladies wouldn’t be wearing these outstanding shoes!
So as women took on the initiative to imitate men’s style, they began exploring new horizons, from the padded shoulders to the mannish hair cut; it was all there! It was only a matter of time until they found their way to high heels, making them a mainstay in their wardrobes. Indeed, back in the time, women worked their magic just right, making skinny heels a part of their own private lives and we have them to thank for!
The ostentatious high-heeled trend for men hence came to an end, as to stop the uncontrollably pending association to women. While the matter was incredibly sexist- to say the least- we can’t but be forever be thankful to men for graciously bowing down so we ladies could keep this ever-so lavish trend to ourselves!
