This year, famed watch manufacture Patek Philippe is celebrating the 40th anniversary of its Nautilus collection. With the world remarkably changing since 1976 when this timepiece was first created, Nautilus is racing with time in terms of design, dependability and popularity.
To make this occasion even more special for watch aficionados, Patek Philippe unveils two limited-edition Nautilus 40th Anniversary models and proves its ability to keep pace with the times while staying truthful to the key elements of its legend. Designed for the first time in close collaboration with one of the most talented watch designers of the 20th century Gérald Genta, this sports watch was voluminous and made of steel, while the prevailing trend at that time was all about very slender watches made of gold. Its 120-meter water resistance was an innovation and unlike any other wristwatches, it embodied a maritime, nautical aspect.
The two watches launched on this special occasion subtly allude to the history of the brand’s first casually elegant model. While the 40-mm platinum case pays tribute to the original Nautilus “Jumbo” dating back to 1976, the 44-mm Nautilus flyback chronograph recalls the 30th anniversary collection that was introduced in 2006. On their blue dial, diamond hour markers find their place along with a discreet recessed anniversary logo.
