So you’re addicted to fashion and you can’t help but research everything and anything there is to know about fashion. Your friends commend you on your style knowledge and you’re constantly showered with compliments on your flair and elegance. But despite this fashion prowess you possess, do you know everything there is to know? Like, what was the fashion capital in the sixties?
Let’s take a second and go on a little stroll down memory lane, shall we? For as long as we could remember, Paris was considered the world’s most fashionable capital, home to one of the most famous designers of all time, Gabrielle Chanel. Then came the sixties, pushing women to drastically shift from a bottled up- albeit memorable- decade, to a more fashion forward and care-free time. Garments such as shift dress, A-line skirts and the “Angel” dress made it to the top of the list and vibrant colors saw a surge in popularity. But perhaps the factor that encouraged this somewhat “colorful” decade was the rise of the Beatles. Born in England, the awesome foursome started all sorts of new fads and the British Invasion was considerably at its peak! The psychedelic and swirling colors and style were worthy of the London Look and so it all began! London had a massive influence on all international trends, generating tons upon tons of cultural output. In fact, when you say London, we think Twiggy, the “mod style” and of course, gogo boots! Need we say more?
London may you forever live in our fashionable hearts!
