Everything we do, wear- or even eat for that matter- dates back to ancient times. It’s just the way we human evolve in a way or so. So it didn’t come as much of a surprise to us when we found out the origin of headbands. Before we dig deeper into this subject, it only seems fair we shed the light on one substantial – albeit obvious – fact; the iconic show Gossip girls brought headbands to the forefront of public attention once again. There’s really no arguing about that!
But if there’s one thing that remains forever true it’s that we are thankful for being able to bear witness to one of the most beautifully outlandish trends out there!
So it appears to be that headbands are steeped in Greek history,, as Ancient Greeks were pegged to glamorize their updo with what was known as a “stephane”, which is another word for the combination of laurel leaves and olive branches that used to form a crown. If you’ve watched remakes or plays of ancient times, odds are you know what we’re talking about; white togas, messy buns and lavish crowns. Could it be more authentic than that?
The trend continued until the dawn of time, from the middle-ages, to the roaring twenties, the savvy 50’s, the rocking 80’s till this very day! Granted, infinite styles have clawed their way unto trendsetters but that just goes to show how diverse the act of framing our hair can be! And as hair accessories have evolves right along with us, we’ve come to see that there’s no way without them! We all need some headband-love, don’t we now?
