Stay Hydrated During Ramadan

Ramadan is getting closer and preparing yourself for a long fasting day is essential in order to stay healthy. Thankfully, this Holy month comes a little bit earlier than previous years, which means the weather is a bit more bearable. Nevertheless, hydration is key when it comes to staying healthy and glowing.

With this in mind, here are some tips to stay hydrated during Ramadan.

1 – Drink two 8-ounce glasses of water at every suhoor.

2 – Break your fast with two 8-ounce glasses of water and a few dates, as they are a natural source of glucose and encourage your cells to store fluid and fuel for energy.

3 – Drink water continuously during the night.

4 – Consume vegetables and fruits with high water content, such as cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes, watermelon, strawberries, apples and spinach to help your body stay hydrated.

5 – Smoothies are also a great way to use hydrating ingredients, while sipping a refreshing drink.

6 – Cut down your consumption of caffeinated drinks such as tea and coffee, as caffeine helps dehydrate your body.

7 – Believe it or not, fashion matters during Ramadan. If you work indoors, pick light-colored clothes and avoid wearing many layers since we need to keep our body temperature as low as possible. However, if you spend most of your day outside, opt for darker colors. If possible, avoid wearing black as this color attracts the heat.

8 – Cold showers are a great solution for dehydration as well, as they lower your body temperature. If you are not at home, got to the bathroom, wet a small towel with ice water and apply it to your forehead, the area around your ears, the base of your neck, the upper back, and the chest.

9 – Try to exercise 2 to 3 hours after Iftar in order to help your body get rid of toxins and other harmful elements that might cause dehydration later on. And hey, don’t forget to drink as much water as you can before you sleep.

10 – As much as we love Ramadan sweets, avoiding them is key, as unnatural sugars can really dehydrate you.

May this Holy month be filled with many blessings!
