Schiaparelli: Where Fashion Meets Art at the V&A

Where fashion is fearless, imaginative, and undeniably art.

This March, the V&A will open the UK’s first-ever exhibition dedicated to the legendary Elsa Schiaparelli, one of the most daring and imaginative designers of the 20th century. “Schiaparelli: Fashion Becomes Art” will run from 21 March to 1 November 2026 at the Sainsbury Gallery, showcasing over 200 objects that celebrate the House’s radical creativity and lasting cultural impact.

Spanning the 1920s to the present day, the exhibition will trace the designer’s bold legacy, from her groundbreaking early pieces to the House’s modern-day revival under Daniel Roseberry. It will spotlight Schiaparelli’s artistic collaborations with icons like Salvador Dalí, Jean Cocteau and Man Ray, including surrealist designs such as the famed 'Skeleton' and 'Tears' dresses.

The exhibition will also explore her influence in film, theatre and across fashion capitals, while shining a light on her little-known London branch and its dynamic clientele. With garments, jewelry, paintings, sculpture and archive material, the exhibition will capture Schiaparelli’s spirit.
