Louis Vuitton Revives Its First-Ever Watch with the Limited-Edition Monterey

The new minimalist, time-only watch.

Louis Vuitton brings new life to its horological roots with the launch of the Monterey, a limited-edition timepiece that reinterprets the Maison’s first-ever wristwatch, originally introduced in 1988. Designed in collaboration with Italian architect Gae Aulenti, the original LV I and LV II models broke ground with their lug-free pebble shape, travel-inspired features, and bold aesthetics. The cult-favorite watches, affectionately nicknamed "Monterey" from the American pronunciation of montre (French for watch), are now revisited by La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton.

The new Monterey maintains the iconic silhouette in 39mm yellow gold, paired with a pristine white Grand Feu enamel dial. It replaces the original quartz movement with an in-house automatic caliber, crafted with meticulous attention to detail and offering a 45-hour power reserve. Red and blue accents, syringe-style hands, and a crown at 12 o’clock nod to the past, while an engraved “1 of 188” on the caseback marks its exclusivity.

“This watch represents a symbiosis between the old and present,” says Matthieu Hegi, Artistic Director at La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton. A collector’s dream, the Monterey blends heritage, innovation, and enduring craftsmanship in one striking creation.
