Van Cleef & Arpels continues to merge innovation and poetry with the unveiling of its latest creation, the Brassée de Lavande Automaton, part of the Maison’s Extraordinary Objects collection, set to debut at Dubai Watch Week 2025. Since 1906, the Maison has been celebrated for its High Jewelry, timepieces, and precious objects. Introduced in 2017, the Extraordinary Objects collection highlights Van Cleef & Arpels’ artistry through unique mechanical marvels.
The Brassée de Lavande Automaton, assembled in the Mécanique d’Art Workshop in Sainte-Croix, is a tribute to nature’s grace, combining movement, music, and fine craftsmanship. Standing approximately 12 inches tall, the automaton features thirty-six lacquered rose gold lavender stems forming a delicate dome. When activated, the bouquet opens to reveal a butterfly with wings of orange plique-à-jour enamel, diamonds, and black enamel outlines. Crafted from tiger’s eye and amethyst, the butterfly flutters gracefully before returning to the bouquet’s heart as it gently closes. The automaton’s base, composed of verdite, howlite, and polished white gold snails, incorporates a rotating ring that displays the time with golden beads and diamond hour markers. When in motion, the scene is accompanied by a harmonious melody.
However, this brilliant art piece is not the only marvel to be displayed at Dubai Watch Week 2025 as a celebration to Van Cleef & Arpels’ unparalleled watchmaking savoir-faire. From archival documents and patrimonial pieces, to the central area furnished with four workbenches, and several alcoves displaying the universes dear to the House: ballerinas and fairies, poetic astronomy, love stories and enchanted nature, the creativity is once again borderless.
