Shalimar Celebrates 100 Years with Guerlain

A legend lives on.

Guerlain marks the centenary of its iconic fragrance Shalimar, first composed by Jacques Guerlain in 1925, with the launch of Shalimar L’Essence. This new intense variation distills the perfume’s distinctive amber and vanilla notes into a contemporary Eau de Parfum. Inspired by the timeless love story of Emperor Shâh Jahân and Princess Mumtaz Mahal, Shalimar was the first amber perfume in history, combining bergamot, rose, jasmine, iris, vanilla, and tonka bean in the signature Guerlinade accord.

Shalimar’s creation revolutionized perfumery, its Mughal-inspired bottle with a sapphire-blue stopper making history in Art Deco design. Over a century, the fragrance has captivated women worldwide, from transatlantic travelers to modern icons, becoming a symbol of bold femininity, sensuality, and freedom.

Today, Shalimar L’Essence enhances the legendary scent with Madagascan vanilla tincture, rich amber, and subtle musk, offering a warm, enveloping trail for contemporary women. Available from 1 September 2025, this new expression bridges Guerlain’s heritage and its future, reaffirming Shalimar’s status as an enduring masterpiece of modern perfumery.
