AzyaaMode Explores Rolls-Royce’s The Spirit of Marassi – Where Bespoke Automotive Artistry Meets the Mediterranean

An exclusive look inside the marque’s inaugural summer residency on Egypt’s North Coast, celebrating personalized design, regional debuts and timeless craftsmanship.

Against the sun-drenched turquoise waters of Egypt’s North Coast, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Middle East & Africa curated an unprecedented summer milestone: The Spirit of Marassi. Held from August 14 to 22, 2026, at the Palace Beach Resort in Marassi, the nine-day residency marked the House’s inaugural beachfront sanctuary in Egypt. Transforming an exclusive private villa into a curated world of craftsmanship, haute hospitality and Bespoke design, the activation placed automotive couture side by side with coastal leisure.

On the ground in Marassi, AzyaaMode sat down with the leadership shaping this chapter: James Crichton, Regional Director for Middle East and Africa, and Michelle Lusby, Bespoke Lead Designer at the Rolls-Royce Private Office Dubai, to uncover the vision behind the brand's bespoke legacy and its expanding Middle Eastern narrative.

The establishment of this coastal presence represents a natural homecoming in Egypt. For James Crichton, establishing a presence in the country is both an emotional and strategic milestone. Long before the residency took shape, a private gathering of marque collectors in Cairo confirmed that the appetite for the brand was palpable.

"About two and a half years ago, we hosted a dinner with probably 20 to 25 owners of Rolls-Royces... It was such an overwhelmingly positive dinner that a lot of people, before they even said, 'Hello, James,' asked, 'When are you going to open a dealership?'" Crichton shared with AzyaaMode.

With a temporary presence in East Cairo's 5A district and a permanent visual identity showroom currently under construction, Marassi represented the perfect seasonal retreat. "To establish our presence here, we need to get well known. Marassi is a place where people come on summer holidays in Egypt, and there is already a buzz around people talking about what Rolls-Royce is doing," Crichton explained. He noted that the Middle East continues to operate on a decisive, forward-moving cadence:

"It’s very much a 'can-do' climate... you go out, meet with partners and feel you’ve achieved something tangible."

Turning to the creative realm reveals the true art of the personal commission. In conversation with Bespoke Lead Designer Michelle Lusby, the dialogue turned to the soul of the marque: the Bespoke Atelier. Operating much like a Parisian Haute Couture salon, the Private Office Dubai provides an intimate space where clients translate memory and emotion into rolling sculpture.

"My first brief was very much a conversation like we're having today," Lusby recounted to AzyaaMode. "Talking with an individual who wanted to integrate family stories into the car... He was inspired by the day he met his wife, so we created a Starlight Headliner capturing the exact celestial coordinates of the day and time they met."

With an archive boasting upwards of 44,000 hues – before even accounting for unique shades created from scratch – exclusivity is absolute.

"If a client has developed a color that they've named, that choice is completely reserved for them," Lusby emphasized. "We will never duplicate a design from another client. They own their design, making it a true one-of-one."

Every commission is a test of patience and imagination, taking anywhere from 12 months to nearly four years to reach fruition. Across the Middle East, this bespoke journey is increasingly celebrated with grand reveals.

"Some take receipt of the car in their home surroundings, while others have grand events with roses and invited guests," Lusby noted.

This creative momentum arrives alongside a changing cultural tide across the region. Both Crichton and Lusby observed two profound evolutions in regional ownership: deep multigenerational bonds and an inspiring surge of female collectors taking the design helm.

Crichton reflected on commissions created as emotional monuments, recalling an Arabic-inscribed two-tone Phantom crafted by a son for his father, featuring mother-of-pearl marquetry in homage to his family's pearl-diving heritage.

"You get goosebumps when you get involved in projects like this," Crichton said. "When you hand over the car, you often see men with tears in their eyes."

At the same time, the aesthetic influence of Middle Eastern women is reshaping the Atelier's canvas. "It’s changing, for sure, and it’s something I’m passionate about," Lusby affirmed. "In Qatar and Saudi Arabia in particular, ladies are very much the decision-makers, coming forward to express their distinct personalities through nuanced storytelling and artistic details."

As the residency drew to a close, The Spirit of Marassi reinforced that a Rolls-Royce is never merely a motor car – it is an intimate sanctuary of identity, effortless engineering, and living art.
