Vallée de Joux, where Maison Jaeger-LeCoultre is located, is known for its captivating night sky. Since the sky – with its sun, moon and stars – is the origin of time, the Swiss timepiece manufacturer shares its notable passion for the movement of these elements and uses them as source of inspiration this year.
In 2015, Jaeger-LeCoultre travels to the universe of astronomy to express itself. Through its new creations, Jaeger-LeCoultre depicts the observations of ancient civilizations in regards totime for it is this phenomenon that outlines our daily life. The earth around the sun defines the calendar by one complete turn, the moon phase defines the week and month and the 12 hours represent the “12 decans visible during the night of the spring solstice.”
To capture the beauty of the night sky with the moon and stars, Jaeger-LeCoultre used materials such as meteorite stone and lapis lazuli. The meteorites represent the shooting stars that leave behind a luminous trail as well as the color of lapis lazuli, which was the favorite stone of ancient kings, represents the sky. Rare and mysterious, these materials act as integral design feature in the watches.
In addition to their utility, the watches offer the wearer a beautiful visual interpretation of our surrounding universe.
