What started off as an understated collection quickly turned into an over-the-top, statement-worthy and bold line of Haute Couture pieces. Daniel Roseberry promised to pick up where Elsa Schiaparelli left off 85 years ago, and that he did!
It was with grand gestures – figuratively of course – and bold colors that the designer invoked the House’s legacy, sending out a slew of models in overzealous pieces such as a loose cropped top with a billowing train matched with high-waisted trousers, taffeta dresses that spiraled into humongous Haute Couture pieces and one particular rainbow-colored midi dress that seemed to hug the body like a glove. The collection was a particular mélange of shiny embellishments and popping colors – Schiaparelli’s moniker “Shocking Pink” leading the way – and was nowhere near the minimalist side of the continuum. But isn’t this what the House is known for? Pairing Couture-creativity with state-of-the-art volumes and colors?
