From First Ladies like Jackie Kennedy and Hollywood starlets like Elizabeth Taylor and now Jennifer Lawrence, David Webb has showered the world’s most glamorous women in jewels for decades.
We sat down with the famed American jeweler to discuss the new side of the brand, his bold new campaign and the Doha show that will reveal for the first time in the Middle East David Webb’s iconic sautoirs that were recently featured in the Norton Museum Show.
What is the new David Webb about?
David Webb is the continuation of a storied tradition. It is building on the heritage of bespoke craftsmanship through unveiling of archival designs that were rarely or never previously made.
Many times David Webb's elaborate jewels look like regal tribal pieces that were once worn by an Aztec queen. Will you continue to explore this legacy today?
David Webb’s iconography interprets the ancient form to make modern, timeless statements. His unique American style is a synthesis of many cultural and ethnic signatures. We are proud to continue his bold work by handcrafting stunning pieces from these exciting designs.

You will be re-launching the 'Tool Chest' collection in Doha. Can you tell us why you have chosen this collection?
The Tool Chest Collection has several meanings. It is obviously strong and edgy, but it is also symbolic. The nail is the fundamental connector at the heart of any building. By celebrating this basic, raw element of construction as a thing of beauty and even glamour, David Webb created a series of statement pieces celebrating the power of women to shape society, lead business, and build the community.

How do tastes differ in this region?
David Webb has been sought after by top collectors from the region for decades due to the bold, timeless statements of his designs and the unparalleled craftsmanship that brings together precious metals, pearls, precious stones, jade and even crystal to form unique pieces. What’s fascinating for us really is to see how the flowing, fluid lines of the abaya and the bold geometry of traditional Arabic patterns are shaping global fashion from Paris to Milan to New York. Visitors to the Doha show will be the first in the Middle East to view the collection of David Webb’s iconic sautoirs that were recently featured in the Norton Museum Show. These long necklaces are perfectly suited to the 1970s glamour that is bringing long, light and flowing gowns back to the red carpet.
