Cartier's 'Paris Nouvelle Vague' Breathes Parisian Treasures to Life

by Mirella Haddad

The vibrant and undeniably fashionable city of Paris is the inspiration for Cartier’s new jewelry collection, ‘Paris Nouvelle Vague’. Each one-of-a-kind piece evokes characteristic Parisian flair and style. The city’s energy, romantic spirit, extravagant parties and baroque-inspired openwork come alive in creations that embody the diversity French jewelry house.

Combined with fine precious stones, gold is made into gadroons, openwork, latticework and braids, reflecting the house’s expert craftsmanship executed in fine style. Mainly inspired by the energy of the City of Lights, these stunningly modern jewelry pieces speak to discerning women with an insider’s knowledge of Paris, its unforgettable nights and delights such as Italian socialite Bianca Brandolini d’Adda – who is the face of the collection.

Curved rings adorned with chrysoprase, black jade and chalcedony resemble pastel colored sorbets in a cornet made of gadrooned gold while long necklaces embellished with cultured pearls, spinels and morganite swirl like Chantilly cream – reminding women wearing them to freely entertain their appetite for jewelry at any time.

Cartier heads to the Pont des Arts and attaches padlocks linked by precious stones including amethysts, aquamarines, tourmalines and spinels. Along the Seine, the movement of ripples sees the light in the shape of fine bracelets made of black lacquer and diamonds. While moving further down the bank, arches and domes come to life in monumental rings and bracelets made of delicate latticed gold. To end this daytime journey, red, Cartier’s signature color, subtly appears in the rings and bracelets interior.

At night, necklaces, rings and earrings reflect the city’s engaging movement and hence are created with sparkly links of gold beads and shimmering diamonds. Legendary Parisian Balls are but distant memories without the lights. Cartier captures their significance in the form of jewelry pieces filled with fiery opals, red spinels, emeralds, tsavorites, diamonds, lapis-lazuli, yellow and pink sapphires.

Parisian grandeur and historical beauty is once again brought to the forefront in admiration in this latest collection by Cartier, which further cements the jewelry house’s role as one of France’s leading torch bearers.
