Most of Anthony Vaccarello’s spring 2016 collection, unveiled yesterday in Paris, was tied together by one thing: a gold bangle. Lots of flesh is to be expected at any Vaccarello show, and this one was no exception, yet it felt as though if you were to remove the bangle you’d have an unraveling of another kind. Leather skirts and tops merged at the waist, pieces of fabric secured together to create a top, and dresses tied at the hip seemed so fragile with the thought of that bangle and everything that rested on it. Though delicate in creation, the looks were tough in character and evoked almost a modern gladiator gliding ahead.
Nice surprises rested on a crisp white shirt paired eloquently with a grey high slit fluid skirt or dresses with pixelated face prints on them. A dash of color, a wonderful metalized red reminiscent of Versace in the 90’s, came in the shape of a sleeveless crystal embellished dress that made quite the impact. I enjoyed seeing Vaccarello move between his usual mini leathers to more breezy elements that injected an elegant undertone.
Vaccarello released his army of gladiators, strong women that were not afraid to face the world -in what little they had on - because ultimately nothing is going to stand in their way.
