We’ve all at some point in our fashion daze, cravingly opened our grandmother’s closet and swifted through her wardrobe. We have found clothes from her early years and we have fallen head over heels in love with their mystical aura. Well, this season, Alessandro Michele is recreating a funkier more eccentric version of our definition of vintage.
Acknowledging the wonders that the famed creative director has done for Gucci, the latter perseveres in his path to explore new horizons for the pre-fall collection.
Seeming a bit chaotic at first glance, one wouldn’t know where to focus exactly, but it all falls back into place once the glamorous luxurious feel kicks in.
Like a loose cannon, this collection is fueled by explosively vivid colors and eccentric motifs, including cats, castles, butterflies, florals, snakes, birds and celestial bodies. A clash of style takes over the collection, as fringy skirts are paired with striped cat sweaters and satin bomber jackets overpower lurex maxi dresses. Something about the blouses and dresses that harbor the pussycat bow- a Michele signature- make us go all crazy. Could it be their eccentric preppy feel? And what about those mixed metallics that could make any outfit shine bright like a diamond? It’s all very overwhelming, but the most impressive part remains the pieces marked with nature-like motifs, from denims, to shirts, jackets, furs and handbags. Even the accessories are animated in such a way that they add a bit of quirk to the already- crazed outfit. Candy-striped mittens from here, metallic boots from there, and maybe a tad of long gloves from there too! The Technicolor paradise continues with platform boots, shoes and bags animated with lips and eyes, and a callback from the 50’s with a ruffled apron-inspired dress.
Michele has once again created a vintage fairytale for the fashionistas out there, showcasing a premium collection of quirky wonders and graphic-like statements. A fine range that every fashion enthusiast should definitely covet.
