Right at the heart of London’s iconic Westminster Abbey, between the landmark’s legendary cloisters, Alessandro Michele presented Gucci’s Cruise 2017 show, and it was spectacular.
The prominence of the venue aside, the collection was part of a grungy-meets-chic vision, bursting with exaggerated florals, lace frillings, graphics, embroideries and bleached denim. But forget about the lavish garlands for a moment; what was mostly salient was most definitely the frantic combination of patterns and colors. It was as if Michele took on the role of Picasso and splattered his ingenuity all-too perfectly in one unified canvas. Models paraded in 60’s-inspired cocktail dresses, bleached denims and animal-printed oversized coats, spiked leather jackets, garments embellished with graphic cats, Victorian ruffles and the iconic pussy bow, floral motifs mixed-and-matched with stripes and geometrical lines and lace, lace and lace! And to top it all off, Michele added his crowning touch with platform shoes embellished with rainbow-y hues.
This year, Alessandro Michele went beyond the Gucci-usual; he surpassed his greatness and achieved the unachievable. He took the crowd to his mad Gucci world and feasted their eyes on his irreparable charm and oh were they sold!
