Did You Know…The Difference Between Vintage and Retro?

If you monitor the latest fashionable trends like we do, then you’re probably a freak for vintage items. Or should you call them retro? More often than not, people use the two terms interchangeably, without noticing the difference in meaning and in their usage.

Today, we’ve decided to brush up your knowledge on this fascinating fashion tidbit by proving once and for all, that there actually is a difference between “Vintage” and “Retro”. Since we all have a little something for the past, we constantly find ourselves looking for vintage shops so as to bring back old memories- or in most cases, to look like #hipsters. Granted, your “old” piece of clothing speaks for itself, but how will you ever know the difference?

A vintage piece of clothing is one that embodies a certain time period and more specifically, that is constructed during said time. Retro style, on the other hand, is not necessarily from an old time period. It can be a brand-new piece that represents a certain decade and that imitates a riot of trends, which makes it a substantially stylish movement towards the past. So technically, retro is a form of replicating the old, while vintage is something authentically old!

But whatever you say- or think for that matter- you should always keep in mind that something vintage can be retro, but retro cannot and will never be described as vintage!
