In a white room in Le Palais des Beaux-arts plexi-glass chairs led up to a white waved web of lines. The first thought that pops into the mind is the Sydney Opera House or perhaps a magnificent Zaha Hadid structure.
Indeed, Zuhair Murad’s fall haute couture presentation was built on post-modern architecture and design. Beadwork, prints and structured fabrics came marching down the runway like an urban city skyline.
A master of the red carpet, Murad did not fall short in creating jaw-dropping gowns with intricate beading. The electric blue numbers were particularly stunning as he mixed the softness of flowing silk chiffon with the roughness of architecturally lined beadwork. Framboise and silver were also standouts in terms of color, however, the series of neo-futuristic prints mesmerized as colorful lines curve through the body like sound waves.
Though uncharacteristically Murad—due to the lack of beadwork—the dramatically structured silk gowns that appeared in framboise and electric blue were ultimately the ones that stole the show. His ability to manipulate fabric into a structural masterpiece makes him an architect in his own right.
