French House Celine has welcomed a new era ever since designer HediSlimane was appointed Creative Director. Last season, the latter had presented black elegant and grungy pieces, true to his beautifully peculiar aesthetic.

This time around, Slimane’s rendition of Celine’s Fall/Winter 2019-2020 collection was that of a rock and roll base mixed with bits and pieces of Phoebe Philo’s legendary feel. And so, the collection which started out as an effortlessly elegant parade of wool ensembles, chunky knits and shearling coats, soon turned into a galore of sparkly separates, leather moto jackets and pussy-bow blouses.

There was something very interesting about the whole line, as if Slimane was delivering a very visual speech stating that Celine could be anyone and anything. Basically, the looks were a big mishmash of sporty-versus-elegant; think bomber jackets paired with flared midi skirts, denims paired with shiny thigh-high leather boots and big fur coats, and tailored classic trousers mixed with sparkly tops.
